!!!!!!!!!!HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I can't believe 2010 is coming to an end!  This has been one of the most emotional and exciting years I've had yet.  Not only is 2010 coming to an end, but so are my 20's!  I don't know whether to be scared or excited, but I'm I can't fight it, so I've decided to just go with it. What else can I do..right?  So, just 3 hours short of 2011, I'm looking back on this year, and all the things I've gotten the chance to experience.  I have to say, I've had a pretty blessed year.

I've always been a dreamer, and I believe that great things can a do happen.  You just have to believe, and take the chance.  I've always wanted to travel, and see the world.  I come from a suburb of Texas. It's not a small town, but even the biggest town gets smaller and smaller the longer you stay.  So, I took the chance this year.  I left Texas and moved out to Seattle with my boyfriend.  It was so exciting!  We gave away most of my belongings, and set out.

That's me standing in front of Mt. Ranier!
The Space Needle!

Seattle was great...the land was absolutely breathtaking.  I'd never seen the Pacific Ocean or lived on a mountain, and it around November some white stuff started falling from the sky and covered the ground. I couldn't believe it was actually snowing AND sticking to the ground!  It's very rare for snow to fall in Texas, so of course we lived it up that day.  We went shopping, rode the bus around, and went walking just get to walk in the snow.  It sounds a bit silly, but when you get to experience something great like snow for the first time, you really try to enjoy it, and live in the moment.
There was also the rain.  When we first arrived in the summer, it may have rained once or twice, but the sun was mostly shining.  But, suddenly fall and winter came, and no more sunshine.  Yes, the rumors are true.  It rains almost every day in Seattle! No joke.
As the holidays rolled around, we decided to come back to Texas. We lived in Seattle for about 7 months.  It was fun, and exciting, and we got to meet some great people along the way.  During this time I also got to visit California and Canada! I'm very happy to have had the chance to create those memories, and I don't regret taking the chance.

Now, as the clock ticks closer and closer to midnight, and I look back on this year, I'd have to say that even though there are some things that I'd like to have changed, this was one of the best years ever, and 2011 can only get better.

So, as this new year begins, and you're making those new years resolutions, remember to be true to yourself, and follow your dreams.  Take that chance, because you deserve it.  If you want to cut your hair or grow it long or color it purple, do it.  If you want to learn how sing or play that new instrument... SING and PLAY! And, by god, if you love someone, tell them.  Be yourself, follow your heart, and be proud of who you are! It's not always easy to do and be what you want, but what's beauty without a little pain?  Stick to those who love you, and be each other's support.  Be there for them, and they will be there for you. :)

So, believe in yourself and chase those dreams! You are worth damn it!!!!!!!!  :D

Hair Trends 2011 - Natural Tousled Hair

One of the looks that's been hitting the scene this past year, is long natural flowing hair that looks as if you've just rolled out of bed, and tamed it just a bit.  It's was the popular style at this year's Victoria Secrets fashion show, and it's sure to carry on through 2011.

*To get the look, wash, condition and let it air dry.

*For straight hair, add some mousse to give it volume.  Then take a curling iron, if you wish to add waives or curles, and wrap it around the barrel just long enough to get some curl, but not long enough to make it really curly.  Wait for your hair to cool, and then separate the curls into waives.

*For wavy hair, pin into finger waves just before it drys. Then let it dry, and take out the pins.

*For curly hair, roll small sections of the hair (about 1 inch) into rollers and let dry. Rollers will help to smooth out the curls and make them longer.

** Then use with holding spray. :)

Have fun!

Hair Trends 2011 - Braids!

Braids braids braids!  From traditional to boho braids, they are back, and prettier and funkier than ever.  My hair isn't long enough to pull off the long exotic braids, but I love the boho braids.  I always have my bangs in a braid nowadays. :)  They work great if you want to add some texture to your updo for the night out, and they're a great way to fix a bad hair day.

Tip:  If you're isn't styled, but you're in a hurry, braid your hair, or chunks of hair, let it sit for a while, and then take them out, and you'll have pretty waives the rest of the day. :)

Hot New Trends for 2011 - The Pixie

So, with the year comes to an end, and a new one just around the bend, thoughts of how to reinvent myself start dancing in my head.  :)  I love changing my hair. I do it all the time, and when I get bored, you better watch out, because I'll come go into the room with my blah hair, and come out with a fantabulous new do.  LOL, well, I do get bored with my hair, and I like to change it up, or cut it a lot.  When I find myself constantly putting my hair into a pony tail...something has to change....which is where I am today.  My hair is getting a bit long and the layers are becoming too long, and I'm at the point where I'm not sure if I want to keep it or cut it.  Which has inspired this post today!

There are so many beautiful, and beautifully crazy hair styles out there today.  So, to help narrow them down, I've done a little research, and here are some of the new trends going around.

I'll begin with the shorter hairstyles since, longer hair gets a bit more attention.

My new favorite cut that's recently hit the stands is Ashlee Simpson's new pixie cut.  She's had many styles over the years, but in my opinion, this fits her perfectly.  I love it with the hat! The short layers give her volume in the back, and the long sides w/ swept bangs help soften her features.

Many others have followed the trend, and taking their cues from the classics such as Twiggy, Mia Farrow and Edie Sedgwick, and cut their long locks into hip pixies.

Pixies are playful yet sexy, and are one of the easiest cuts to style.  Just wash, dry, and style with gel. :)

SMOOTH (NO FRIZZ/ultra light)

For the extra added touch of shine, I spray a little TRESemme' Smooth on my hair.  It's light, and gives the hair a soft shine.

*** Apply to dry hair as a last touch. Avoid spraying it directly on or too close to the hair.  Spray it upward, and walk through the mist. :)

Cost: $5

!!!!AQUA NET!!!

From every school girl to glam rock band in the 80's, Aqua Net was the 1 essential product that was a must next to blue eyeshadow and leggings.  It's been said that one could achieve ANY style no matter how high, with a half a can.  I remember using my mom's hairspray when I was a little girl, trying to achieve the perfect bangs! What can I say, Aqua Net is the true and tried hair spray.  With a generous spray, you can set your style without having to worry about a lot of build up.

Being that I had just moved to Seattle from Dallas, I needed something that would allow me to style my hair, and yet keep it's hold in all the wind I ran into. So, I picked level 3 for extra super hold, and it's worked great.  It has a pleasant sent, and washes out easily.
Cost: aprx $3

Fat Hair "0 calories"

FAT HAIR "0 calories" by Samy

I was in the store a while back, and was looking for some sort of product to help me thicken my hair.  My hair is what I'd say fairly thick, but it often falls flat. So, when I style my hair, I like my hair to have a lot of volume.  My sister had mentioned a few days earlier that, aside from your basic mousse, their were types that could actually fatten the strands of your hair to make it fuller. So, while I was in the store, I ran across Fat Hair.  I thought the "0 calories" was hilarious, so I bought it.

I really like this product.  My hair always looks great after I've styled it using Fat Hair, and I'll continue using it. :)  There are only two things that I don't like. You'll want to make sure to style it with a blow dryer immediatly after putting it in your hair, or it will start to dry and make your hair hard to brush thru, and the second is that it is a tad heavy on the hair.  Not too much to really make a difference.  Otherwise, I love Fat Hair "0 calories."  Cost:  $7.00

!!!Yay, Product Reviews!!!

I sat today trying to decide which products I wanted to review.  I'm pretty simple, but I love products, especially if they're free! LOL.  A couple of weeks ago, I visited Gene Juarez Academy.  I'm currently searching for cosmetology schools in Seattle to attend.  The tour and interview went really well, and at the end I got to pick out a couple of goodies to take home.  It was the cherry on top a my day! So of course I went home, and started to play, and here's what I have to say:

Both products were by TRI Professional.

The first one I tried was the Sculpting Styling Gel.  I'm always a little skeptical of gels because a lot of them tend to gather too thickly too quickly.  This one was nice though.  It has a light mint scent, and is gentle on the hair.  It's great if you want to have the wet look. Just comb it into your hair, and let it dry.  You can also tame loose or fly away hairs.  All in all, it's a good product. It's about $30 at the salon or at

AERO Body Infusion

I think I fell in love with the body infusion. It smells great, and is gentle on the hair.  It's a spray-in volumizer.  Just spray it in when your hair is damp, then style.  It doesn't weigh down your hair, and gives volume and shine.  It ranges from $8.50-$13.50.

The Many Shapes of Faces

If you're wondering what shape of face you have, check out this link.  It's got great advice, and examples of the different shapes.

SIDE NOTE:  The "Making Faces" book is a great great book.  My sister introduced me to Kevyn Aucoin a few years back. He was an amazing makeup artist, #1 in the field I believe... I'll do a post specifically on him in a bit.

The Natalie Imbruglia Cut

Alright, so words can not explain how much I LOVE this cut!  My sister can vouch for how much I adore this cut.  I've spent countless hours trying to get stylists to recreate this cut.  I think it's one of those styles that is very much fashion forward.  Natalie was much ahead of her time when she had debuted it back a little over 10 years ago. It was edgy, and fit the rock scene perfectly! I'm actually a little saddened that she grew her hair back, but she still looks amazing, and as always you've got to keep changing!

Hairstyles N Such

Hi everybody! :)  I wanted to mix things up a bit, and throw in a few of my favorite hairstyles, makeup, and products.  I love seeing the new hairstyles come out, and I love the old ones that make their way back into main stream fashion.  While searching  for the latest trends, I've come across some pretty awesome new cuts.  So, I wanted to include them here on my blog.  Along with some of the pics, I'll include some "how to" instructions, so you can recreate them yourself. :)  Enjoy!

This style, which I call "the layered bob, with some edge" is and will always be tried and true cut. Anytime, I'm bored with my hair, and am at loss with what to do with it, I just cut it into this layered bob. It fits my face perfectly, which is round.  Tip: Layers are always good for a round face.

A bob is the perfect cut.  It can be sleek and elegant for a date night, or ruffled and wild for the party.
